History of Trekking

Nepal has always been a nation of traders and what we now consider trekking trails evolved from trade routes. Generations of porters have carried Indian foods to remote hill villages in Nepal. The trails are also used by people moving between the colder Himalayan regions and warmer climate of the tarai to the south.
some of the movement is caused by seasonal migration, but many people move permanently because of the pressures of increasing population in the hills. people travel extensively for wedding, general, festivals, pilgrimages, school and government or military business. The primary difference between eastern and western Nepal is that the of the monsoon is less west. in the east the climate is damp and ideal for tea growing. in the far west the climate is quit dry even in the monsoon season. Another influence on the east- west division is The large rivers that flow south in deep canyons. these river s often limit east west travel as they wash away bridges during the monsoon. for this reason the major trade routes are from south to north, from Indian
border to hill villages in Nepal and then across high mountains passes to Tibet.
